“Come on people now, smile on your brother; everybody get together and try to love one another right now. . . ”
Those were the words of the old 60s song “Get Together,” and what better advice can we have for the times we live within?
If you look at our country right now, it seems no matter what view you have, the opinion you may try to express, or the words you may use someone, is ready is to fight. Why is this?
Our “Pledge of Allegiance” states, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall.” Has anyone thought of these words? Our government as a whole has us divided, and it seems we are all divided and falling.
The more we allow ourselves to be pitted against one another, the more we will continue to suffer. Our government is supposed to work for “we the people.” However, they seem to only care about working for “the House of Representatives.” They live with big bank accounts and privilege and then say it’s certain people in our country experiencing a life of privilege. It is the ordinary individual who is the person benefitting from such freedom. Have they thought to look at themselves when they make these accusations? Have any of you taken time to think about the message of those preaching these words to us? Most are privileged, white men and women. The people of Congress state they see White Supremacy among the ranks of citizens and one person in the office for four years. I have seen this White Supremacy in the office of Congress for over 40 years. The fact is most are power-hungry, and what better way to keep that power than to project the issues of hatred and harm upon us? When the truth is our Congress holds all of the power and ability to change the issues they claim to see. However, they make no changes.
In my opinion, our last leader was not polished, but he also was not the sole blame for the 40 years of incompetent leadership. In fact, he exposed how broken our system has been for years. He revealed that “we the people” have no power to change things in this country. He brought to light that Congress holds all legislation control and does nothing to help our country.
Our country’s education system stopped teaching “Civics” in the early 70s. The issue of not teaching civics is partly to blame. If citizens do not know how the system works, how can you begin to demand and vote for changes? The president’s role in the United States of America is to implement and enforce the laws written by Congress. The part of Congress is to represent the American people and makes the nation’s laws. You cannot blame the Executive Branch for the incompetence of the Legislative Branch. However, our legislators’ bank on the fact that citizens do not know this and they continue to feed false promises and feed us “key phrases” we like to hear, in order to keep their place in Congress… indefinitely. Most congressional members start as average citizens and retire multi-millionaires all on our hard-work and their ability to say the right things and do as they please to gain power and money.
Machiavelli explained it best if you keep people of your nation held in fear they will honor you, love you, and look to you for help and safety. If you keep your people in fear, they will never turn on you, and you can hold your power over them. Therefore, Congress is projecting fear on all of us to keep us divided by saying we are against each other through race, gender, ethnicity, etc., to keep us separated. Hence, we turn on one another and not turn on them. I am not saying these issues within our citizens do not exist. I am saying they do not exist to the measure the Congress projects them to be currently. To say that these issues are worse now than ever, the Civil Rights and Feminist movements were all for naught because all of the fights of Martin Luther King, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Susan B. Anthony, Betty Rriednana, and Gloria Steinman did not work. They all fought for and accomplished nothing. The truth is, it is our Congress’s desperations are causing many of these issues to remain forefront in main-stream-media to keep us all in fear and against one another.
We are better than this; we are one nation, we are one race, and that race is “human.” So I’ll end with how I started, “Come on people now, smile on each other, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.”
Until then… Keep Sparkling~
