Gonna Put the World Away for a Minute. . .

Pretend I don’t live in it . . . la la la – one of my favorite songs by the “Zac Brown Band”, and it couldn’t be more true for what I am about to write.

Have you ever felt too connected to everyone and everything around you? We have FacebookInstagramTikTokemail, work, family, and all of the other activities and responsibilities of the world we live within, and everyone available to us on each of these paths expects that we are available at every second of every day.  Sometimes, we just need to unplug and forget everything.  I know I do.

When I was younger we didn’t have computers or cell phones.  If we were sitting in our back yard, unless you walked into the yard to see me, I was unavailable.  If I was in a car taking a long drive or going to a local store, I was unavailable and people were okay with this concept.  Not in today’s world.  In today’s world, people drop a message or a phone call and are upset if they do not receive an immediate response.

When I get inundated with Facebook messages, calls, or texts telling me I didn’t respond to a call, text, message it drives me crazy, probably crazier than the person who is waiting for my response.  Why does everyone feel the need to have instant replies to non-emergent situations? Why, is it that we have grown into a society where it appears many feel we have no life other than waiting to respond to messages that come in about a funny meme someone sent?

I think many of us are so programmed today to having instant gratification, we forget to take time to step back and relax. We have lost the art of patience, understanding, and space. I am not saying I don’t care or have become anti-social. What I am saying is, sometimes we just need quiet time, to regroup, to find our way in this crazy world, and to have some semblance of peace in mind.

I explained to my friends and family, it may take me three hours to get back to you on a text or it may take several days to get back to you on a Facebook, post, or message. This is because I do not feel the need to sign-in every day, nor do I walk around with my phone glued to my hand, but I will get back to you. I promise!

In fact, thanks to a post from @astrologybymari, I saw this on TikTok and sent it to many of my family and friends – my sign is Taurus and this explained my issue perfectly lol

Within my day, I am juggling the craziness we call America right now, my family, virtual school for my son, helping another son find his way in life, finding a job, taking care of an elderly parent who cannot leave home due to Covid-19, errands, you know like the rest of the world. Social Media and texting have taken a back seat to the few moments I get to sit, relax, and think about what I have to do or where I’d like to be in life.

So, if you don’t hear from me, it’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I care too much and I’m drained. I’m taking time to “put my oxygen mask on first” before I decipher a meme in a text.

I hope you are all well and taking care of your needs.  I hope you “put the world away for a minute, and pretend you don’t live in it.” Before you are knee-deep in non-essential issues, take time to be knee-deep in your life and experiences.

This is all part of letting it go and let happiness in.

Until then. . .

Keep Sparkling~
